ISO 30201:2026 is the first international standard that establishes human resources management as a fully certifiable management system. Published in June 2026 by technical committee ISO/TC 260 (human resource management), it sets out the requirements for a human resources management system (HRMS) that any organization can implement, improve and have certified. The official standard page is published on the ISO website (committee ISO/TC 260).
What ISO 30201:2026 changes
Until now, the ISO 30400 series offered HR guidelines (human capital management, recruitment, diversity, reporting) but no certifiable requirements standard. ISO 30201 fills that gap: it is a requirements standard (a management system standard), like ISO 9001 for quality or ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety. An organization can therefore demonstrate conformity and integrate its HRMS into its overall management system.
The standard makes one point clear: the term HR management system does not refer to a software or HRIS, but to the set of policies, processes and practices through which the organization attracts, develops and deploys its talent.
A harmonized structure, based on PDCA
Like all recent management system standards, ISO 30201 adopts the harmonized structure (clauses 4 to 10) and the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle:
- 4. Context of the organization: issues, needs of workers and employers, scope, HR processes.
- 5. Leadership: top management commitment, HR policy, roles, and consultation and participation of workers.
- 6. Planning: risks and opportunities, HR objectives, management of change.
- 7. Support: resources, competence, awareness, communication, documented information.
- 8. Operation: the operational core of HR.
- 9. Performance evaluation: monitoring and measurement, internal audit, management review.
- 10. Improvement: continual improvement, nonconformities and corrective actions.
Clause 8: fourteen HR processes covered
The distinctive feature of ISO 30201 is its clause 8, which structures the entire HR life cycle into fourteen processes:
- Operational planning and control
- Workforce planning
- Workforce allocation
- Remuneration, rewards and recognition
- Recruitment
- Onboarding
- Learning and development
- Knowledge management
- Talent management
- Performance management
- Succession planning
- Workforce mobility
- Exit from employment (including retirement)
- Human capital reporting
Eight guiding principles
The standard is founded on eight principles of managing people: reciprocity between the organization's needs and those of workers, the value people bring, adaptability to context, synergy, responsibility, organizational culture, work environment (physical and virtual) and role in society.
ISO 30201 is not a mere documentation exercise: it is a concrete way to demonstrate the value and return on investment of the HR function to top management.
Why it matters now
ISO 30201 positions the HR function as a strategic lever for resilience and sustainable performance, aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10). For top management, it is a way to structure talent management, secure the continuity of competences through succession, and strengthen the employer brand, with an auditable framework. Being among the first organizations to structure and certify their HR management is also a competitive advantage and a strong employer-brand signal, in a market where attracting and retaining talent is decisive.

Where to find the ISO 30201 text, and what is free
The question comes up with every new standard: where can I download ISO 30201 as a PDF? The answer is blunt, and it differs from the answer for a law. An ISO standard is not a public text: it is sold by ISO and by the national standards bodies, IMANOR in Morocco. There is therefore no free and legal PDF of ISO 30201:2026. The copies circulating on document sharing platforms are unauthorised reproductions, and an auditor who sees a version of untraceable origin will draw their own conclusions.
What is free, and genuinely useful:
- The official ISO 30201:2026 record, which gives the scope and identifies the current edition.
- The ISO/TC 260 technical committee page, which places the standard within the human resource management family.
- Our ISO 30201 self assessment grid, which restates clause by clause what the standard expects, with an automatic conformity score. It does not replace the text: it tells you where you stand before you buy it.
That is the cheapest order of operations. Measure the gap with the grid, decide whether the subject is a priority this year, then buy the text to work seriously on the clauses that concern you. Buying the standard first and leaving it unopened is the most common and least useful expense.
How to prepare
The first step is to measure the gap between your current HR practices and the requirements of the standard, clause by clause. HEMC offers a free ISO 30201:2026 self-assessment grid, built on clauses 4 to 10 and the fourteen processes of clause 8, with automatic conformity scoring. Our consultants then support you in building and implementing your HR management system, all the way to certification audit preparation.

Social data is the least equipped part of sustainability reporting, and it is the hardest for a verifier to trace. ISO 14019-1, published in February 2026, sets out what will be required: our verification readiness grid draws 31 points from it.
